Gabriel Magalhães arrived on Monday (24) in London to sign with his new club, Arsenal. The 22-year-old Lille defender had some proposals, but he chose the English team to defend for the next five years in a deal worth 30 million euros to be sure of his future.

Gabriel started in Brazil at Avaí and was soon negotiated with Lille, in 2016. He went on loans and was called up by the Brazilian under-23 team. He just didn’t go to the Pre-Olympic competition in January because the French team did not release.

His hiring went through the hands of Edu Gaspar, a former CBF director and now director of Arsenal. The executive took references from the defender in the base categories of the selection and liked what he heard. This also helped with hiring. At Arsenal, Gabriel will keep company with three other Brazilians: David Luiz, who will be his competitor for the vacancy, Willian, who recently signed a three-year contract, and Gabriel Martinelli.
